Project | Beyond our borders, princes, kings and emperors for centuries contributed culture and recruited the greatest artists, sculptors, painters, writers and musicians. They gave them food so that they embellished their castles and palaces. With art the court was held, music and theater were not only entertainment, not just "nice to have", but also "status symbol". Secular culture had become a major political counterweight to church power. The courts in Europe as well as the churches left behind an immense cultural heritage.
